Linking to travel cheap to Andorra

by Cristina Sirkia 24.10.2009
I am an Andorran citizen, and as you may know, we are very few, only around 85 thousand people. This is why I want to talk about my country, as the probability of you knowing an Andorran citizen, who can explain the attractions and offers our country has, is small.

If you are like nature : you will love our mountains, lakes and forests. If you like skiing or snowing: you have to visit our ski resorts, or if you simply like travelling: you will enjoy visiting such a small country in the middle of the Pyrenees.

I am going to guide you in a way that makes travelling to Andorra very affordable. Although most of the information given is valid throughout the year, some of the information is only valid on summer or winter seasons.

General information about our country:

First: how to arrive?

Andorra is in the Pyrenees Mountains, just in between France and Spain, and due to the small size of the country and to the mountains it is only possible to arrive by car or bus. The nearest big airports are Toulouse (France) and Barcelona (Spain). Most of the tourists come from Barcelona. These are the two most important bus companies that come from both cities:

If you are going to come by car, it takes about 3 hours from Barcelona or Toulouse:

Once in Andorra, where to sleep?

You can sleep for free in Andorra’s mountain huts. The following link explains how to get to them and gives you several tips if you decide to sleep there:

Another possibility for sleeping for free is at someone’s home through:
You can also have a cheap accommodation in Andorra la Vella’s Youth Hostel:

If you can afford or prefer something else, here is a wide list of places where you can get special discounts with the European Youth Card:
Where and what to eat?

There are hundreds of places where to eat in Andorra. During the week, most of the places offer a set menu, which makes it much cheaper than to eat à la carte. The normal prices for the set menu are around 10€ per person, These include; a starter, a main course and a dessert, (water and coffee may sometimes be included in the price).

Of course the cheapest meals are at fast food restaurants, here you can also get discounts with the European Youth Card, which makes it even cheaper:
If you are visiting Andorra la Vella’s city centre, there is a various department stores, where you can have lunch, one main dish for around 4 to 5€ (Pyrennes or Escale)

Things to do and visit:

During the summer, our mountains, valleys, lakes and nature are something beautiful to experience. Here you have a good summary of the available nature activities:

In the winter, our ski resorts are our greatest attraction:
We have a thermal spa centre Caldea, which is a great relaxing experience, as well as one of our greatest attractions:

Andorra is also famous for its shops and shopping centres, thanks to our tax free prices, shopping is one of our greatest attractions. Take advantage of the discounts with the European Youth Card:
Take note that most of the places of which I talk about in this article, offer special discounts with the European Youth Card.
