Let poetry rise up from us!

by Alexandra- Emilia Bucur 27.12.2009
I write poems since I was a child but I discovered pretty late that poems have a big importance and influence in all every day life domains and it is a way to communicate with myself and with the others. First, was quite difficult because I thought that is an inaccessible world for a teenager, you have to read a lot and your poems should bring something new, a new way of thinking and a new vision about life in general. It is difficult to grow up and to become a name especially when you are still very young and people look at you without confidence. I participated during time at many national poetry contests and I won almost all I wanted even a prize in an international poetry contest in Lebanon. The most important fact is that I saw there the name of my country and the flag, not especially my name. I still go at national poetry contests and especially at cultural events where it is implicated poetry or theatre. I would like to see more teenagers involved in literary activities and to be a strong cultural network where could exist collaboration and a good information about cultural events but like in all life domains, in poetry world exists also affinities and prides. Are some people around me that laugh that I write poems, they see poetry to be pretty older and old fashion. In somehow I observe that in this economical rush and this kind of social evolution, culture in general or should be redefined and adapted, or should stay back. But I believe in old values and I consider that a strong society should respect the culture and should keep it in a safe place among new values and tendencies. I dedicate it much time and I like to read a lot to can form me a strong general culture. I believe that other art’ domains interact between them. This is necessary if you want to write, if you want to make career and become a famous writer. I hope that one day I will win a very important international poetry prize. This is my dream in my literary career so I work for that despite the daily urgent stuff that I should do especially preparing for my Master courses. I feel that during time, being involved in cultural activities and have a constant contact with the literary medium from my country and also taking part at European poetry Slam Berlin this year, helped me to improve my literary skills, to have another view, more larger about world and all around me and to see and observe everything from my personal point of view and that it is reflected in what I am writing. All these processes help me to get a more professional writing level.
I hope that culture will never die and teenagers will have the same respect for culture like in the past despite the fact that culture like our societies, it is in a continuous movement and changing. Culture adapts to the social realities among people and countries. Culture has not impact only on social life, but also on political, historical life and all these influence in a way or other the economy and growth. It is sure that a welfare state has also a healthy culture, social culture depends by democratic, political culture and return. A social culture and a proactive active citizenship means a strong social culture and a balance in state.
In my poetries I am inspired by the human nature, the people around me, my own experiences by every day life, I am inspired by main issues from global reality like: climate change, pollution, I write a lot in my poems about cancer, melanoma and treatment inspired by my grandma story which I see it every day how she fights with cancer and I think that this is a very important source of inspiration. Poetry it is a way to communicate, it is another way to communicate like painting, music, formal or non formal language, like gestures. It is an elegant mode, cultural one which contributes among others at social communication, social culture, consolidation, cohesion and integration of people into society and adaptation at new realities in a subjective mode. Also during my travelling this year I was inspired by other cultures and other cities which I visited during my youth projects and I wrote in my poems about them because I believe a lot in multiculturalism and intercultural dialogue.
Not everything around me inspired me, but there are some big facts or sights that inspire me in an express mode. I hope that poem will be like social theatre- a social poem, a social gate from central to edges, from local to central and from ordinary people to intellectuals and important people, a social action through which people will understand better some issues. I hope that one day poem will go out in the street and become a social poem like a social action which will fight with civic society for the rights of people and against discrimination, cruelty against animals, climate change, conflicts and will fight for peace, understanding, equal rights and a better world, bringing in front all civic actors the important problems. Culture it is a soft way to arrive to a human being, culture approaches nations, approaches people and can be understood by all people because it is a common language.
I would like to have the opportunity to publish a book from my language translated in other international language to can transmit further all I achieved during time from my country’s culture, all I achieved during time interacting with Romanian values and customs. I would like that teenagers to not laugh about poetry and culture and don’t believe like some do that poetry it is old fashion and should disappear from our lives or to be assimilated by other new culture like urban or underground. It is true that poetry it is very old, it is one of the most older activities since then to now, since Aristotel, since Antique Greece and Roman Empire, but poetry can be redefine, can be adapted to new waves, also poetry can include and interact with other cultural movements like video- poem, with painting- visual poem, with music, pantomime and acting- poetry slam. I believe a lot in poetry like a way of expressing your sensibility like human being, like a proof that we are human and we feel and percept everything around us! We are human, so let poetry rise up from us!
