Imagine you have just landed on Earth ...

by Mo O 29.09.2009

… and Europe looks like a nice place to immigrate to, but what goodies can EU offer to a young good looking Martian like you? And what's this thing called youth policy?

This is a story about opportunities and realities young people are facing. What does the future hold for you? Click and see more about it:

It's a biiiiig list of things to do with/by youth policy and a lot of stuff is changing constantly.
And as everything on this planet youth policy has to go under constant development.

And here come your 5 minutes of fame: by contributing your thoughts, views, wishes to the policy makers. Even if you feel confused like Alice in Wonderland when you think of EU policy making... you can still take part in building the future reality for you and other young people in Europe.

How? Well, there are several possibilities.

There's this thing called structured dialogue with youth - meaning that EU countries and institutions discuss chosen themes with young people to make their voice heard... and making youth policy not just for young people but also by young people. Part of this dialog are also:

EUROPEAN YOUTH EVENTS (twice a year)
EUROPEAN YOUTH WEEKS (every 18 months)

Both are especially designed by the European Commission to listen to the views of young people on youth policy issues.

There are also formal representatives of young people with which EU institutions cooperate in the matters of youth. You can join:

NATIONAL YOUTH COUNCILS
&

But you don’t even have to join any club to be heard in EU...
There are many initiatives in which ordinary young people can talk about their views, like these:

a project by EURODESK involving young people from 12 EU countries

a youth research project by EYCA involving young people from 17 countries

a project by EYCA involving young people talking about EU enlargement and the future of Europe

If these events are not your style and you are more of a “cyber person”, then check out this:

it’s a gateway to information on Europe for young people but it also allows you
to have your views heard (discussion forums) and your questions answered.
