GIVE PEACE A CHANCE (3/29)

by Askhat Kaybushev 03.04.2010

2010/3/29. That was usual morning. I woke up at 5 am, because at 8 am I had to be at the airport. Elina and I were sent to study at a factory in another city. At 6 am I left my home, and at 6:25 went down to the metro station "Universitet" at Sokolniki line. At 6:35 I was at “Park Kultury”, where I moved to another line. I couldn’t imagine that next time I would  hear the familiar voice: "Next station is "Park Kultury ", my heart would feel a big pain. At 7:50 am I was already at the airport. One hour ago after passing control, we were located in the waiting room. Stranger, who spoke on the phone, loudly repeated: “Bomb attack? “Lubyanka”?”  Elina began to call her parents. I turned on the radio. We couldn’t understand what’s happened… I remember only two phrases: “Two bomb attacks in Moscow at “Lubyanka” and “Park Kultury” metro stations” and “About thirty people died”. ..

I was at “Park Kultury” 2 hours ago. I usually go in the second wagon train, which was attacked. Very bad ideas occurred my head…

We were extremely shocked. We remembered London metro attacks and 9/11… It is a war, war with terrorists. We must be strong. It’s not our war! But we are soldiers…

That day we were absolutely helpless…  I was at “Park Kultury” 2 hours ago. I usually go in the second wagon train, which was attacked. Very bad ideas occured my head…

Then everybody knew from Mass Media that two female suicides from North Caucasus crossed half of Russia to make bomb attacks in the metro.  One of them was 17 years old. She avenged for her husband, who was killed several months ago.

Then everybody knew that 40 people died and more than 60 are still in hospitals…

Yesterday I came back to Moscow. It took me great efforts to go down to the metro. Today I got off at “Park Kultury” metro station. I saw a lot of tears, flowers, photos and candles there… Between them I saw John Lennon’s image with his famous phrase: “Give peace a chance”!
