Belgrade - a Capital of Fun

by Gazela Pudar 10.11.2009
Have you ever thought on coming to Serbia or Belgrade? Serbian capital Belgrade is known as the “Capital of Fun” in the South East Europe, with perfectly good reason. This city on the confluence of 2 rivers never sleeps!
Here you can find some advices how to spend quality time and use benefits that your European Youth Card EURO<26 or student card ISIC offers in Belgrade.

But first, do you know how to come to Belgrade? Unfortunately, there are no low cost flight, but if you have a ISIC card, you can buy a ticket with discount at Serbian national airline “JAT airways” in 43 international offices! You can also take a bus or direct train from Munich, Vienna, Prague, Venice, Thessaloniki, Budapest, Bucharest, Sofia or Istanbul!

Once when you come to Belgrade, it is no problem to find accommodation, although it is better to arrange it in advance! With your European Youth Card EURO<26 or ISIC card, there are many possibilities for good and cheap accommodation. You can find addresses and websites of those hotels or hostels here!

Belgrade transportation is quite good, although not so fast, since there are traffic jams, all the time. If you use a public transport, you should buy a ticket on the kiosk – it costs app. 0,5e and it is valid for one ride. You can also use a taxi, which is not so expensive.

Belgrade can offer you a lot of museums of its very exiciting and long history, and most of them offer free entrance if you are EURO<26 or ISIC user.

During the night, you can have fun on Belgrade’s famous floating river clubs with choice of different music – folk, rock, disco, house or trance. By day, you can notice that Belgrade is full of young people sitting in the cafes and restaurants – it doesn’t matter if it’s working hours or not! You should definitely visit the island Ada Ciganlija and enjoy its many cafes – we recommend Red Shoes - made from woods, offering good food during the day and great fun with live music during the night!
While you are there, go ski on the water or increase your adrenaline in the Adventure park on the island!

If you are hungry, use your EURO<26 card and have a light meal at very popular Pizza Hut in the very city center or in one of the first Belgrade’s pizzerias Pizzeria Golub situated in the longest Belgrade street once known for its open market along the street! Try excellent local beers Jelen or Lav, or famous brendy – rakia made from different fruits (we recommend apricot or quince)!

You can use your both cards for shopping in Belgrade, also. Buy something in the Sweet Years, Serbian first fashion youth brand, or some LIVE T-shirt as a souvenir! If you prefer international brands, visit Max Mara, Diesel or Springfield where you can always find something meant for you! Also, walking along famous "Bulevar" - Boulevard of king Alexander will offer you great low cost shopping places.

Also, if you feel like going out from the urban area, we recommend you to spend a weekend just 5 hours from Belgrade, on the rafting tour! Beautiful rivers Tara and Lim, famous for its purity, attract all those who appreciate nature and enjoy adrenalin outbursts! Take opportunity and feel the magic of the traditional Serbian cuisine and domestic atmosphere.

There is much more about Belgrade and Serbia to introduce. That's why we provided a map of Serbia with all EURO<26 and ISIC discounts. But something is better to do in vivo! Once when you come, you’ll see why it’s main Serbian characteristic – hospitality!
