Andorra's Youth Party Blog

by Cristina Sirkia 02.11.2009
I will first explain that in Andorra la Vella, the town council organizes every year the Youth Party (La Festa de la Joventut). The 12th of August is the official International Day of Youth, and Andorra la Vella's town council wanted to create an event celebrating this day. The problem was that during August and the beginning of September, most of Andorra's young people are not in the country as this is when most of the people have their summer holidays. So the council finally decided to organise the party on a more suitable date.

The Youth Party was created for the young people. The idea is that they have their own party, made for them and by them, thanks to young people that propose ideas for the party and they are then developed and created by the council’s youth department, with help of the young volunteers. In this way youth is involved in all the process. It is also a way to attract young persons to inform them about all the public resources they have available.

It is a great party with different activities such as football and basket competitions, hip-hop competition, concerts, street-drum shows, firework shows, second hand exchange market, theatre, … a little bit of all those things that us young people like.

What I want to talk about here is what the Andorran’s Youth Card Association organised this year in the party, the name of the project is Enllaça’t amb la Festa (Link to the Party). It is a blog where 10 young “journalists” between 16 to 18 years old, would talk about this Youth Party in live. So during the Youth Party these young “journalists” had to write articles, take pictures, and film videos that were immediately published on the blog. As well as interviews to young people to know what they thought about the activities and asking for new ideas for next years party were made.
It was a lot of previous work, in order to organise where, when and how all the Youth Party activities would be covered. But the group of young journalists made a great work and the blog was a great success. The blog is in Catalan, which is our language, but you can have a look at it to have a general idea of the great work of our young “journalists” and to have an idea of how the Youth Party is like, lots of videos and photos will give you a good idea.
These are some of the postings I have chosen for you, which I think are the most interesting:

  • A theatre representation: Incomunicant, showing made up of young persons that are learning the 3 different arts: music, dance and drama.
